Description
Beautiful mid-century Couroc round tray featuring a red cardinal on a brass inlay branch.
These trays were quite pricey pieces in their day, and were only carried in high-end department stores. Alongside their whimsical designs, the company’s saying for its trays was: “Any tray can serve a drink. Only Couroc can start a conversation.”
Due to a unique process of hand-inlaying natural materials and fusing them into phenolic resin, no two Couroc pieces are exactly alike — each of these vintage mid-century modern pieces are unique.
The Couroc Company, founded in 1948 in Monterey, CA, produced beautiful and often whimsical black resin trays and glassware made by skilled artisans. Couroc’s founder, Guthrie Courvoisier, worked with a variety of plastics while working in the war effort during WWII. He used his experience and developed a proprietary formula of phenolic resin material that was not only durable enough to form into trays but was also impervious to alcohol and flames. Courvoisier’s wife, Moira Wallace, acted as Couroc’s chief designer and led an art commune of skilled artisans in arranging an array of local items into Couroc’s resin pieces.
In good vintage condition, with the wear you would expect on a tray this age (light scuffs).

As with all vintage items, please understand this has been previously loved and some wear may be present. We always do our best to accurately photograph and describe the item, but always purchase with the knowledge that vintage items are always 20-90 years old — but hey, that’s what make them awesome! We want every customer to be happy with their purchase, so please purchase with the understanding that vintage items are one-of-a-kind and perfectly imperfect.
